East Devon fire crews called to midnight gorse fire

Exmouth and Sidmouth fire crews were called out in the middle of the night after gorse caught fire in Woodbury Common.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received calls from members of the public that there was a fire at Hawkerland in Woodbury Common at 12.24am today (Tuesday).
Firefighters from Exmouth, Sidmouth and Middlemoor were deployed alongside a water bowser from Danes Castle and incident command from Honiton.
On arrival crews confirmed that there was approximately fifty square metres of gorse involved in fire and user three hose reel jets to try and extinguish the fire.
A fire service spokesman said: “At 1.23am crews had bought this incident under control. They had extinguished a fire involving gorse covering an area of approximately seventy metres by one hundred metres. They used beaters and hose reel jets.
“Crews made the scene safe and returned home station.”
