A EURO MP whose constituency includes Exmouth has called a fellow member ‘a disgrace’ after he quoted Adolf Hitler during a tirade in the parliamentary session.
South West MEP Graham Watson has accused UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom of ‘embarrassing the British people’ after disrupting the European Parliament by shouting abuse at German Social Democrat leader Martin Schulz.
Bloom interrupted Schulz by shouting across the chamber Hitler’s mantra of ‘one people, one kingdom, one leader’ (ein volk, ein Reich, ein Fuhrer’.)
When asked to apologise, Bloom called Schulz ‘an undemocratic fascist’ and was eventually thrown out.
Mr Watson said; “Godfrey Bloom’s behaviour was outrageous, and UKIP has again tarnished Britain’s reputation in Europe.
“I am disappointed that another UKIP MEP has decided to stand-up for the cameras and his own ego, rather than Britain’s interests.
“This kind of behaviour would not be tolerated in the House of Commons or British society generally, so why do UKIP think it is acceptable in the European Parliament?
“I’m pleased that MEPs threw Bloom out of the session and I hope voters do likewise if and when he seeks re-election. Godfrey Bloom is a disgrace to Britain.”
