LAND in Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding villages suitable for building at least five new homes is being sought by the district council.

LAND in Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding villages suitable for building at least five new homes is being sought by the district council.

Suitable sites are required throughout East Devon and owners, developers or other interested parties have until the end of July to contact East Devon District Council for the sites to be considered as part of the new Local Development Framework for East Devon.

Interested parties will be required to provide a map of the land concerned and complete a form to provide basic information about the site - such as current use, constraints and when it would be available for housing.

The council said it was important that people were aware that sites that were remote from established settlements, or would affect a Site of Special Scientific Interest or an Ancient Monument, were likely to be discounted early in the process.

All are welcome to submit details of potential sites, however owners of sites - or those acting on their behalf - will have greater credibility when assessing if a site was available for development.

Councillor Ray Franklin, East Devon District council portfolio holder for strategic planning and regeneration said: "This call for sites is intended to ensure that no potentially suitable housing site is overlooked.

"We need to identify sites to help us prepare plans to meet East Devon's housing needs over the next 20 years.

"If you have information on whether a suitable site may be available for housing, please send us the details on the appropriate forms."

A form setting out the information required may be found on the East Devon District Council website at http://www.eastdevon.gov.uk/planning-strategic_housing_assessments, and by contacting the planning team on (01395) 571543.
