AN EAST Budleigh woman this week celebrated her 102nd birthday - defying the doctors who told her mother she would not survive.
Kit Bridgford spent her birthday among friends and enjoyed a champagne tipple at her local pub, the Sir Walter Raleigh, to mark her special day.
Former skier and golfer Kit said she put her longevity down to living in Devon and remaining active.
She said keeping busy through the war years - when she had six jobs - and having plenty of friends added to her zest for life.
Steering away from debt and helping people was also considered by Kit as an elixir for life.
She said: "It's pretty amazing considering when I was a baby the doctor said I wouldn't last long - but here I am!
I have lots of lovely friends. I have been very lucky.
