EAST Budleigh in Bloom held a sale in the village hall to raise funds to pay for the village's 2009 Britain in Bloom entry.
A host of specialist plants, vegetable plants, cakes, books and bric-a-brac meant there were plenty of visitors digging deep to boost the group's coffers.
East Budleigh in Bloom spokeswoman Beryl Maynard said the cash raised was still being counted - but hoped enough had been collected to pay for plants and compost.
Mrs Maynard said: "The most expensive thing is the compost. We plant up over 60 baskets along the brook railings - that's apart from all the other tubs and baskets we plant.
"People don't realise they take a lot of compost to prepare.
