Urgent appeal for volunteers to clear vandalised Smeatharpe track in time for memorial event this Sunday.

Dunkeswell banger racer David Weare has been tragically killed during a race.

The tragedy happened at Hednesford on Sunday- and has prompted an urgent appeal for volunteers to help clear up the vandalised Smeatharpe track before a memorial event is held there this weekend.

Mr Weare, who was 43, leaves a wife, Sue, and two children.

The Number 78 was well-known and respected in banger racing circles, but a race event in his memory could be blighted by vandalism.

The Midweek Herald understands the Smeatharpe track has been covered in foul graffiti and is littered with broken glass.

Volunteers are needed to help Autospeed clear the track and are asked to turn up any time between 9.30am and 5.30pm on Thursday and Friday.

Please leave your tributes to Mr Weare below.
