A Lympstone couple, who will be celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary, have won a gardening award.

Peter and Evelyn Paine, of Meadow Close, were awarded the best garden by judges from Lympstone Garden Club.

The winners of the annual flower and vegetable show’s best front gardens and allotments were decided last month ahead of the show at the village hall on Saturday, August 22.

Entries can still be made for the show between 6pm and 8pm on Friday, August 21.

People are urged to take along their fruit, vegetables, flowers, baking and handicrafts for the show.

Refreshments will be available at the event, which starts at 2pm, and there will also be prizes handed out and plants for sale.

Front garden and allotment winners are:

Best front garden – Peter and Evelyn Paine.

Second front garden – Jean Parker.

Third front garden – Eric Hill.

Highly commended front garden – Edward and Anne Butcher.

Best container Display – Anne Scott

Second Container display – Shirley Wilkes.

Third container display – Don and Joyce Laney.

Highly commended container display – Trafalgar Road.

Best premises – The Globe Inn.

Second premises – The Swan Inn.

Third premises – The Redwing Bar and Dining.

Best allotment – Ian Smith.

Second allotment – Di and Colin Beatty.

Third allotment – Ann Crisp.

Best allotment vegetable – Mick Cornish.

Second allotment vegetable – Roger Woodland.

Third allotment vegetable – Graham Evans.

Best allotment fruit – John Welton.

Second allotment fruit – John Bower.
