A Lympstone woman who has lived in the village for 70 years has celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends.

Dorris Beattie, of Glebelands, was joined by her family for a special lunch at Churchill Court Community Centre.

She also received a card from the Queen and was presented with flowers and chocolates by Lympstone parish councillors Richard Eastley and Kathy Rogers.

Her son, Roger, said: “The day was absolutely brilliant and we couldn’t have done it better if we tried.”

Dorris has lived in Devon all her life, growing up in Dunchideock before becoming a Red Cross Nurse during World War Two.
