People from Budleigh Salterton and the surrounding areas are being given the opportunity to give blood.

A blood donation session will be held at the Public Hall, on Wednesday, January 20. Sessions will run between 1.10pm and 3.15pm, and between 4.15pm and 7.15pm.

Donors should be aged between 17 and 66, or up to 70 if a previous donor, or have given blood in the last two years if older than 70.

There are limited walk-in slots, or appointments can be made in advance by calling 0300 1232323, or by visiting

The event in Budleigh comes as the NHS appeals for donors to meet the winter demand, and hot on the heels of the Christmas and new year period when there is increased pressure on stocks.

A spokesman said: “Every donor is vital over winter months. A single blood donation can save or improve the lives of up to three people, helping to treat patients with cancer and anaemias, after accidents or childbirth complications, and during surgery.”
