REGARDING the letter headed "Majority are in favour of ASDA". It was right to point out that, if there are 11,000 objections to the asda proposal, we must assume the remaining - ie the majority - are in favour of the much-needed competition to Tesco and SomerfieldI extract this section from the writer's letter to point out that neither he nor anybody else has the legal or moral right to make any such assumption. He might assume that, as 11,000 objected to the proposal, the remaining population are apathetic to the outcome! Can I remind him that, in our political first past the post system, not a single Government since 1945 has achieved 50 per cent of the overall vote. Interesting how life works, isn't it? We have fought to earn the right to vote. Use it, whether you are for or against an issue. Only when we all vote can anybody say the outcome is democratically achieved, in the real sense of the word!
