It is interesting to read that the "Champion for Exmouth", Cllr Darryl Nicholas, is consulting the public on the plan for The Strand. Will he also consult the public on the proposed ASDA superstore on the side of the Exe Estuary? He mentions that Exmouth has a triple offering of leisure, arts and environment. He does not mention that he and East Devon District Council are ignoring over 10,000 signatories opposing this massive ASDA "warehouse". This would cause huge congestion at the entrance to Exmouth, instead of welcoming visitors to the Jurassic Coast. Exmouth is a wonderful seaside town, with a world famous estuary, and visitors arrive by rail, bus and along the national cycle route adjacent to the estuary. It is vital, therefore, that this entrance to the town is protected and enhanced, and not destroyed and lost forever.EDDC reneged on their undertaking to drop the superstore proposal, and are now attempting to proceed without consulting the public. Many residents are actively involved in the Exmouth Citizens' Forum campaign against the ASDA superstore by the estuary. It is very rewarding to be part of a campaign when it succeeds. As Cllr Steve Wragg so rightly said: "This is a store which is about as popular in this town as a rattlesnake is in a lucky dip."
