Dogs terrorised Withycombe

TWO Great Dane dogs left to roam the streets of Withycombe Raleigh caused fear and upset as they terrorised pets and frightened residents.The two large dogs were spotted running amok around Marpool Crescent, Green Close and the Moorfield Road areas of the town, sparking residents to contact the police.Residents claim the dogs terrorised other pets and terrified people walking along the street.Police spokesman Baxter Provan said: "We had a number of reports from various members of the public. The officers went up and managed to corral the dogs with the help of the owner's friend who looked after them until the owner arrived."We had no complaints by anyone about injuries caused by these dogs."Exmouth councillor Steve Gazzard, of Marpool Crescent, who phoned the police four times, said he became concerned for people's welfare after the two loose Great Danes attacked a man's pet dog as he walked it along the road.He said he was alerted to the dogs' presence after his 12-year-old daughter Phillipa spotted them running up the road.He said one neighbour, waiting for their grandchildren to arrive, was forced to 'stand guard' in his garden to warn them about the loose dogs and prevent them from stepping straight out of their car."The dogs were standing in the road looking at me. I could see the evil in their eyes," said Mr Gazzard."My daughter loves dogs and used to have a Great Dane. She wanted to get hold of them but I said 'no' because, if they could attack an animal, they could attack a human."Then a young couple came along and one of the dogs jumped up at them. The girl was crying her eyes out."If people have dogs like that they should keep them under control."It was really frightening. People couldn't do anything with them.
