Dog owners have signed up to a code of practice to protect wild animals and their habitats
A group which encourages responsible, environment-friendly dog-walking has celebrated its first anniversary, with a group walk on Pebblebed Heaths.
Devon Loves Dogs joined forces with the Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust for a guided walk, with the leader giving information about the heathland’s wildlife.
At the end of the walk the 15 dogs were given a canine-friendly cake and played games, with prizes for the winners.
Membership of Devon Loves Dogs is free, and offers information on recommended walking routes, invitations to guided walks, and money-off vouchers. Members agree to follow a code of practice which includes keeping their dogs under control and away from wildlife, and clearing up after them. Guided walks on Pebblebed Heaths take place every month. Kim Strawbridge from the Conservation Trust said: “The walks give people the confidence to explore, safe in the knowledge that if they follow the Pebblebed Dog Code, they are helping us care for the heaths which we all love.”
