In my 22 years of living in Budleigh Salterton, I have only felt urged to write to your paper once before. That was on the occasion of the planning issues of creating a new local dental surgery. However, I feel I must write my second letter to say how horrified I was to see the images of that monstrosity that someone proposes to replace the Longboat Cafe on Marine Parade. Anything more out of place to the character of this area I cannot imagine. There will be some who say Budleigh cannot be preserved in aspic and I agree, but let us have some better consideration to what is appropriate.I used to think there was some idea of tradition in our town, but fortunately this latest effort to destroy an otherwise beautiful landscape/seascape does not leave me speechless. Do we want this carbuncle to destroy what is currently, from every angle, very pleasing to the eye? Leslie Allsup,Knowle Mews, Budleigh Salterton.
