friendly option: DIVORCING couples in Exmouth no longer need be locked into an 18-month bitter legal dispute with a new ‘friendlier’ option.

While divorce rates in England are at their lowest for 30 years, January is always the busiest time for family lawyers who are inundated with up to 50 per cent more divorce or separation applications.

One theory is that it takes until after the Christmas holidays, when warring couples and families are forced to spend two long weeks in each other’s company, before the penny drops and couples realise they don’t have a future together.

Now the process could be made easier, quicker and less combative – a group of 29 trained family lawyers, called Devon Collaborative Law, are raising awareness of a new and ‘friendlier’ process that aims to take some of the conflict, pain and expense out of a family breakdown.
