Simon Bates, presenter of BBC Radio Devon’s breakfast show, presented awards to restaurateurs, tea shop owners, hoteliers, butchers and bakers from across the county.

In the best drinks category, Lily Farm Vineyard, in Budleigh Salterton, was picked by the judges for its English wine.

Owner Alan Pratt said: “We are proud and humbled that it is the Devon Life readers that have picked us.

“The fact that judges picked an English wine is a real boost for English wines in Devon.

“It’s a culmination of Devon vineyards producing English wines and people know what they want.”

Lily Farm sells its wine through a number of regional outlets including Darts Farm in Topsham, which was also celebrating success at the awards.

Darts Farm was picked as the best independent food shop by judges of the Devon Life competition.

Darts Farm director Michael Dart said: “We are really thrilled to win the award.

“It rounds off an amazing year of awards for us.

“We would like to thank all our loyal customers who have shopped with us for many years and new customers who have discovered us recently.

Michael also thanked staff for their ‘fantastic dedication and passion’ day in and day out.

Family-run business Veg in a Box, also based in Topsham, picked up an award for best newcomer.
