Long-awaited plans for a new watersports centre on Exmouth seafront have been revealed.
Developer Grenadier has published an image showing the proposed centre in Queen’s Drive, which it says would host sports including paddle boarding, kayaking and kite surfing.
The developer says it will be holding consultation events to see what Exmouth residents make of its plans, and these will take place at Ocean in Queen’s Drive on October 21 and 25, between 9am and 5pm, and on November 1 between 5pm and 9pm.
The developer says the not-for-profit scheme would provide training and changing facilities alongside an outdoor events space and eateries, and is expected to provide services throughout the year.
Peter Quincey, director of Grenadier, said: “We’re excited to be sharing our designs with the local community, and hope as many people as possible offer comments and participate in our consultation.
“Our goal is to build a centre that serves the town, enhances its waterfront and builds on Exmouth’s water sports heritage. The centre will play host to sports like paddle boarding, kayaking and kite surfing.”
“We’re also committed to making sure the centre delivers long-term financial benefits to the local economy, and is energy efficient to support the local environment.
“Our hope is this will be a real benefit to Exmouth, and it’s important to us that the local community is actively involved in this development.”
The watersports centre forms phase two of East Devon District Council’s planned three-phase Queen’s Drive redevelopment plan.
It would be built on a site currently occupied by the road, a car park and the former site of DJ’s Café, with the road to be moved north under phase one.
