I was delighted to read on the front page of the Budleigh edition of the continuing efforts of Brent and Jane Hushon to rebuild the current Longboat Cafe to include a "proper" restaurant. Budleigh has a wonderful seafront and has long awaited a restaurant to take advantage of the views. My wife and I are pleased to see that the somewhat negative attitude of some people has not killed the enthusiasm and hard work of the owners and staff and look forward to enjoying good food in a setting that is probably unique in this beautiful part of Devon. There will inevitably be the usual objections from those who do not want any change and we would certainly agree that 'Kiss Me Quick' hats and hamburger stalls are not in keeping with the peace and quiet of Budleigh. However, not all change is detrimental and a quality restaurant taking advantage of a beautiful situation must be of benefit to the town and thus to everyone in the area. Hopefully good sense will prevail and the new Longboat will be launched in the not too distant future. John and Margaret Edmonds,The Old Station, Otterton.
