Decision day for Michael Caines’ hotel plan

District planners are set to make a final decision next week on plans by a Michelin-starred chef to create a luxury hotel and restaurant between Lympstone and Exmouth.

Michael Caines is seeking planning permission to deliver the scheme for Grade II-listed Courtlands House, in Courtlands Lane. Members of East Devon District Council’s development management committee were due to rule on planning permission at their meeting last month, but instead voted to defer their decision so they could carry out a site visit, allowing them to consider neighbours’ concerns on the ground.

They will now be making the final decision at their meeting at Knowle in Sidmouth on Tuesday.

Planning officers had previously recommended approval, and Exmouth Town Council said it did not object to the scheme in principle.

Lympstone Parish Council was also in favour.
