An abseil challenge, which raised funds for new active play equipment at St Peter’s Primary School, has been hailed a ‘great’ success.

Some 31 people turned out for the abseil at Haytor, Dartmoor, raising around £4,000 - with donations still coming in.

The money will go to the school PTA’s ‘active play appeal’, which is aiming to fund new outdoor play equipment.

So far, £14,000 has been raised for the appeal and the school is working towards a target of £27,000.

Headteacher Steve Hitchcock was one of those taking part.

Budleigh Salterton estate agent Robin Burne, of Bradleys, High Street, also took on the challenge with his sons Jay and Theo.

A spokesman for the school’s PTA thanked Climb South West for their help on the day, as well as sponsors, children, parents and grandparents who took part.
