Cyclists to marry on charity ride

An Exmouth couple are preparing to tie the knot on a two-wheeled adventure - when they get married during a charity cycle ride.
Keen cyclists Anna Reffell, 47, and Lee Atkinson, 55, are embarking on a 1,400-mile ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
They will stop off on the way in Gretaa Green to get married.
The couple, who met eight years ago at the Teign Valley Pedal Bashers Cycling group, will also be using their ride to raise money for Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.
Anna, who works as a trauma nurse practitioner for the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust, said: “When Lee asked me to marry him, we knew we did not want an ordinary wedding. We met through our interest in cycling and fell in love. So it seemed natural for us to include a cycling theme within our wedding plans.”
The couple plans to extend the cycling theme to the wedding day itself, which will see the pair arrive on a tandem bike and join Lee’s grandchildren on a cycle around the village for wedding photographs. They will then hold a post-wedding festival with friends and a ride with their cycle clubs when they get back.
Discussing their plans to raise money for the two charities - to include sponsorship and wedding present donations - Anna said: “What would make our wedding complete is to know others may benefit from our happiness by us raising money for charity.
“We have both chosen a charity in memory of a parent who is, sadly, not with us now, who we both would have dearly loved to have been with us on our special day.”
The couple will set off on June 5, arrive in Gretna on June 13, and complete the ride on June 28.
