THE regional cross country championships scheduled last Sunday for farmland near at East Budleigh was cancelled because of icy conditions.
Organiser of the Bicton College event Neil Miller said while alternative dates had been looked at the race this year will not be rescheduled because of 'fixture congestion'.
He said the course was rock hard after several days of freezing conditions and 'completely unfit for racing.'
He added: "Although there are some stretches which are not too bad, particularly in the sun, many areas are in permanent shade at this time of year, and there is just no scope for devising a course suitable for racing."
Headed that the road in front of the mansion was icy and the college did not have any spare grit.
