ONLY four crimes were recorded in Budleigh Salterton in October, police told town councillors this week.

From September 28 to October 10, nine crimes were reported, but five were categorised as 'non crimes'. These included a domestic incident, 'problem solving' and a child protection issue. The four crimes included a theft of bicycle between October 10/11 in Fore Street behind the tea rooms.

Police also dealt with a complaint of 'false representation of a cheque' when 60-year-old man tried to buy a car.

There was an attempted burglary at Upper West Terrace between October 8 and 9 - although the burglar did not gain entry, the attempt caused £750 of damage to a window frame. Burglars broke into a property at Moormead on October 23, gaining entry to a cupboard in the communal hallway of four homes, but nothing was stolen.
