On behalf of the committee, players and members of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club, I would like to add to the tributes to Chris Stevens and pass our condolences to his wife, Joan, and family.
Shortly after our major flood last November, Chris, in his role of Rotary President, contacted me to advise that Exmouth Rotary were saddened to see the devastation and wanted to help.
He and his colleagues at Rotary were particularly keen to ensure that facilities for the club's extensive colts academy should continue.
As a direct result, in May, Chris, together with his Rotary colleagues Dick Bishop and current president Bernard Garraway, visited the club to present a cheque for 7,226, which had been secured after a lot of hard work from Rotary headquarters.
This, I am sure, is just one example of how Chris's caring nature and desire to serve the community over so many years has made a huge difference to many individuals and organisations. Our club will be forever grateful.
