Cranford aims to raise cash by land sale

The Cranford Sports Club’s future would be ‘secured’ by selling an unused sports field to developers, who want to build five homes.
Developers have filed plans to build the homes next to the club on Salterton Road.
The 204 square metre area is to the right of the sports club’s entrance and is screened by a line of trees. The plans seek permission in principle for the development, and do not give any other information about the types and sizes of the homes.
A design statement reads: “The site benefits from existing established trees along the western boundary, which will provide a natural privacy screen between the existing houses along Delderfield Gardens to the west and the proposed site.”
It adds: “With the sale of the land, Cranford Sports Club can secure much-needed funds to increase, improve and enhance what the club can currently offer and secure its on-going future.”
The plans include a single access road onto Salterton Road.
The plans will be debated by town councillors and the final decision will be made by East Devon District Council.
