I am surprised by the local Conservatives' charade in trying to claim sole credit for the proposals to re-open Rolle College for post-16 education. There are people of all parties, and none campaigned against the original closure of Rolle, but the fact is that it is Devon County Council which is now looking to re-open the college. Devon County Council is run by the Liberal Democrats, and it is the Lib Dem administration at county hall who have brought hope for the future. Our MP is clearly making political mischief with his comments about the leader of Devon County Council. The re-opening of Rolle for post-16 education would also have economic benefits for the town, and it appears that those dual benefits are what the county council is pursuing. Mr Swire's accusations simply don't stack up.Devon County Council is putting forward a substantial amount of money to purchase Rolle College. It seems that East Devon District Council, who are putting in nothing, want to claim credit for the fact that they are not asking for anything to be paid TO them for their planning support. I suppose we should be grateful. E Elmer,Waverley Road, Exmouth
