A Withycombe pub, which has just reopened after a major revamp, has handed over more than £1,300 to Comic Relief.

The money was raised back in March, before the Country House Inn closed for its £80,000 refit.

A number of fundraising events were organised by Jacqui Dye and Suzanne Eaton. The first of these was a family fun-day, which featured a range of entertainment including a tug of war contest, egg and spoon races, a duck race, kids’ activities and cakes for sale, along with a draw with prizes donated by local businesses and friends of the organisers.

The second event held was an adult-themed night, which featured entertainment from comedian Paul Zee, sweepstakes, a prize draw, and a sponsored leg waxing for four brave men – Mark Dye, Kieran Hallett, Joe Staley and new Country House licensee Josh Pidgeon.

A third event was held by Jacqui’s daughter Ella, who did a sponsored silence for a whole day, raising £139.20, which with the proceeds from the other events made a total of £1,319.20 raised.

Jacqui said: “The events were fantastic, so many gave their support to raise this money. They made cakes, donated prizes and got sponsored.

“I would personally like to thank Mark, Josh, Kieran and Joe for bringing in over £400 in sponsorship money to brave the dreaded leg wax.”

On hand to congratulate the Country House team on their achievement were East Devon MP Hugo Swire and Exmouth mayor John Humphreys.
