The proposed Otterton Community Shop has become one of several projects in East Devon which has benefited from a grant from district chiefs.

East Devon District Council’s Community Buildings Fund can consider grants of up to £5,000 to help with building projects which benefit local residents.

The fund has approved a £2,000 grant for the Otterton shop, which is to open in the village hall.

Councillor Jim Knight, chairman of the Community Buildings Fund, said: “The great projects already put forward by village halls within the district shows a sense of community and a willingness to keep a communal area running for local residents. I’m really pleased that we can keep this valuable fund going despite current financial circumstances.”

The deadline for the next round of grant applications will be on Friday, November 28.
