Being a responsible dog owner, I am amazed and appalled at the number of other dog owners who are not picking up after their dogs. Two culprits in Phear Park were young mothers of small children. One young mum - with a baby in a pushchair - pretended not to notice when her dog messed and totally ignored what it was doing and walked in the other direction. The other mum was walking along with two small children, aged around four and five. Her dog messed on the grass right in front of her and she just smiled and walked off, leaving the dog poo on the grass. I was too shocked to confront her, which I should have done. These people give us dog owners a really bad name. If they are too tired after looking after their children and cannot be bothered to pick up dog mess, they should not own dogs. It is usually mothers of children who complain that their youngsters can catch nasty diseases from dog faeces - and here they are being the main culprits. All dog owners do need to pick up after their dog for our environment to remain clean and safe for all of us to enjoy.Jayne Cherry,Moorfield Road, Exmouth.
