THE boys and girls in blue will take on a new challenge in the line of duty when going commando at the Lympstone's Royal Marine Commando Training Centre this weekend.

Detective Sergeant Sam Wenham of Exmouth police will be joined by station colleagues PC Emma Prestwich and PC Alex Pilkington as part of a Devon and Cornwall Constabulary fundraising team taking the commando challenge.

The team, led by Dennis Husband, an Exeter based police trainer and former Marine, will take on South Yorkshire and West Midlands counterparts in a weekend of gruelling activities.

All three teams aim to raise as much as possible for the Help for Heroes charity, in aid of servicemen and women injured in conflict.

A series of Marine challenges, from mental tests to the famous Marine endurance course - a seven-mile run through mud and bog, plus the infamous 'sheep dip' water tunnel - will test the durability of the police.

Constabulary physical education instructor Sammy Spall, of the Force's Middlemoor HQ, has donated £200 from the police sports fund to kick-start the team's fund-raising effort.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the team can call Dennis Husband on (01392) 451548.
