EXMOUTH Conservative Club reopened last Saturday for the first time since the blaze at Bargains Galore last month.
A temporary club has been set up in the snooker room with a dartboard, carpet and TV fitted.
Chairman of the club Ivor Pike said the first day open since the blaze went better than expected.
"The room looks really nice, its quite big and at least 400 (out of 500) members have reregistered," he said. "It was really quite busy over the weekend."
He says they are still waiting for the insurance assessors to have a look and cost the damage - and he admits he still has concerns about the access via Sheppards Row.
But he added: "I'm feeling a lot happier than I was a month ago. A month ago, to be honest, we were in despair.
