‘ComicCon’ coming to Exmouth this summer

A selection of sci-fi celebrities and comic-book fans in fancy-dress will be flocking to Exmouth’s seafront this summer.
The town’s first ever ‘ComicCon’ will take place at the Pavilion, in the Esplanade, on Friday, August 26.
Celebrities who have appeared in Doctor Who, Star Wars and Harry Potter have been signed up for the event.
There will also be a competition for cosplay – which is the practice of dressing up as a character from a film.
The event, which will raise funds for Sue Ryder, was the brainchild of Laura Nurse, 34, who manages the charity’s Exeter Road shop.
Laura said she has been going to comic-book conventions for years and wanted to see if it would work for Exmouth.
She said: “It’s my life and soul - literally I have been living and breathing it. Now I get home and I am just living and breathing ComicCon. Sue Ryder has a fundraising target each year to help pay for things we might need and might not be able to afford each year, so I do something each year.”
She added that while proceeds from the event will go to Sue Ryder, it is being organised by her independently.
Laura thanked The Cake Lady, in Exeter Road, for donating two comic-themed cakes for the event worth more than £120 combined.
There will also be signed DC Comics artwork worth around £350.
Anyone who wants to donate towards Sue Ryder can go into the Exmouth store, in Exeter Road.
The event starts at 10.30am and the first 200 through the door will get comic-book-related goody bags.
Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for under 14s. To book, go to https://www.ledleisure.co.uk/exmouth-pavilion/book-now/comiccon-exmouth
