HAPPY students at Clyst St Mary School receive outstanding care and academic support and achieve above average standards, according to education inspectors.

The latest Ofsted report declared the school is already a good school and is striving to provide an outstanding education for each one of the 140 pupils.

One parent told the inspectors: "Clyst St Mary Primary School offers everything that a primary school should."

Overwhelmingly, parents agreed their children enjoyed coming to school and said they were very happy with their progress.

The report said: "From the time they first start school, all pupils make exceptional progress in their personal development and well-being.

"This is because of the school's strong, caring ethos that supports pupils' achievement and enjoyment of school.

"Teaching is good because teachers understand the needs of their pupils well and provide stimulating lessons that engage and maintain pupils' interest."

The new Ofsted report has just been published following a two-day visit to the school last month.

Headteacher Louise Herbert said: "This is an exciting time at Clyst St Mary as we continue to build upon success.

"We are a school at the heart of the community and we are immensely proud of our pupils"

The school is working on the inspector's recommendations to provide a cover for the outdoor learning area for the youngest children and on developing all pupils' understanding of Britain as a diverse society.
