Every week I read readers' letters and this week I feel strongly enough to write in and express my worry over the lack of concern, support and response received from East Devon District Council regarding Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club.I wish to express my support for the club, mainly as a representative for my three children who attend. Budleigh Cricket Club has a thriving youth network, the government is forever promoting the social and economic inclusion of all young people so that they can contribute to, influence and be valued as part of their community and of society as a whole. Budleigh Cricket Club not only supports the young people of Budleigh Salterton, but surrounding areas as well. Please can East Devon District Council fulfil their promise and commit to inspecting the main beach outfall pipe, daily (five times a week)?EDDC states it will inspect on a weekly ad hoc basis. The present structure replaced a pipe, which previously went out to sea and now gets completely blocked with shingle every day at high tide. This results in the back up of water flooding the fields and dykes along the valley, resulting in a flooded cricket field. Also my concern is for the safety of the children and young people attending the club and using the children's adjacent play park in Lilm Kiln. The open dykes to the rear of the pavilion present a major danger when left for days as they can fill with up to six feet of water. The cricket club is supporting our young people, if the club were to close due to lack of commitment and support from EDDC, where would they go?Claire White, address withheld.
