When I wrote about the sterling work of Orchard Memorials, (letters page, August 6) I was thanking them for what they had done since buying the business from Chris Perry, who has since gone to live abroad.

Chris erected the original Wall of Remembrance for us, and a very good job he did but, since then, it has been upgraded and added to by Orchards, to comply with changing circumstances and this is what I was referring to in my earlier letter of thanks.

I thank the man who rang to remind me of this, but, when Chris was living in the town, we thanked him on more than one occasion, so my letter was for Vince and Jo Orchard, who have to be thanked for all they have done for us, especially during my 12 years as chairman.

Along with Stewart Alexander and the committee, I designed all the memorials and the masons very kindly put it all into legible plans and then proceeded to do the excellent work of carving them and erecting them on site for us.
