CHILDREN have been busy performing at an Exmouth variety competition - showing they have talent which would impress even the likes of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

Youngsters took part in auditions for a Britain's Got Talent-style event at the community college held between last Monday and Friday, November 27.

The variety show, which has been running for three years, is organised by the Exmouth Ice Project.

John Proctor, project director, said eight acts were chosen this week to be put through to the final of Exmouth's Got Talent, to take place at Tower Street Methodist on Friday, December 11.

He said: "The auditions went extremely well. Everyone who auditioned was naturally upset they did not get through."

But, he added: "They all did ever-so well irrespective of whether they qualified for the final.

"The kids really took the event seriously.

"The popularity of the show has grown amazingly in recent years. First time around it was a prototype and comparatively smaller than this year's."

"We have a guy who works in television in London who has helped organise the event and has really contributed to making it a spectacle and visually amazing."

John said the final's winner would secure an opportunity to perform at a multimedia variety show to be held in May.

"One of the most gratifying aspects of being involved in the show for me is to see kids excelling and to give them an experience of activities."

The judges included Dale Powis, a DJ from Bay FM, Ele Jacobs, who won Exmouth's Got Talent in 2007 and Jenna Burnett, a local youth worker.

The ice project is a youth organisation and Christian charity.

Tickets for the final, on December 11, which starts at around 7.45pm, are priced 5 or 7 on the door.
