POOCH-lovers get the chance to see if they would like to adopt a greyhound at a special event at Orcombe Point on Sunday.

Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) is organising the event, and welcomes owners of dogs of all breeds for the three hour walk.

So far they have 50 walkers with 48 dogs - and they are urging more to come forward, and Greyhound lover Mrs Lesley Phillips said: "We are trying to arrange to have some greyhounds from our kennels that are looking for their retirement home to be with us.

"Greyhounds can retire from the age of two years; retirement is early in the racing industry. And most of them are between three and five years old.

"As they are new to the big, wide world outside of racing, we have to take it gently and see how confident they feel on the day.

"We can't just rush them into a new situation which could frighten them. There will be lots of already-adopted greyhounds of all shapes, sizes and ages there to welcome new friends."

The event, on March 29, is at 11am for an 11.15am start, but you have to pre-book. For more information call Canny Judge on: 07989427546.

Donations to GRWE would be very welcome. For safety, walkers must register with steward before commencing walk. Walkers with or without dogs are welcome.
