BEACHGOERS will have the chance to get any moles they have checked at a health event on Exmouth beach this Saturday, August 22.

BEACHGOERS will have the chance to get any moles they have checked at a health event on Exmouth beach this Saturday, August 22.

The initiative, being run by Devon Local Involvement Network, is to raise awareness to sun safety and skin cancer.

The event takes place between 11am and 3pm at a health tent, located by the Octagon, opposite the Bath House.

Caroline Lee, community engagement worker, said: "In East Devon, we spend a lot of time outdoors so cases of skin cancer locally are increasing.

"We want to encourage people to get their moles, that they have been slightly concerned about, checked out professionally."

Caroline added: "We also want to raise awareness of the Devon LINK as well as providing a valuable service to local people."

An NHS clinician from the dermatology unit, from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, will be on hand to check and advise.

Extra information about sun safety will be provided by partners Cancer Research UK.

Members of the public will also be able to find out how to share their views and experiences of other local health and social care services.

The Devon Local Involvement Network is a Devon-wide scheme that gives people the opportunity to have a say on how their health and social care services are provided.

The network is funded by the Department of Health but voluntary sector-based.
