Centre Stage named among England's finest

Young performers from Exmouth have received national acclaim.
Members of youth theatre group Centre Stage performed a number from the musical Newsies at the final of the All England Dance Competition at the famous Hackney Empire in London.
They had qualified for the final after strong performances at the Exeter Dance Festival and the All England semi-final in Cheltenham.
Despite being up against performers from specialist dance schools, Centre Stage again gave a good account of itself and received an honours certificate for its efforts.
Centre Stage artistic director Sue Bonnett said: “This really is amazing as all the other groups are dance school pupils. We produce musicals twice a year and learn to sing and dance as a part of that process.
“I’m not sure the group realise how well they performed. There were 14 other entries, all performing a five-minute song and dance piece, and all of them were from dance schools across the country, all of them attending classes weekly, probably in ballet, jazz, tap and musical theatre.
“We obviously held our own, as honours certificates are not handed out lightly.
“I was very proud of Centre Stage and know that Exmouth will be, too. We always have support from the town and the members appreciate every word of congratulations they have received.”
Centre Stage’s next production will be The Hired Man, at Exmouth Pavilion between August 26 and August 28. Tickets are available from the pavilion, on 01395 222477, or at www.ledtickets.co.uk
