Carousel childcare set for a move to Exmouth

Early years provision will be disappearing from Budleigh Salterton after it was confirmed Carousel is moving to Exmouth.
The care provider, which looks after children under the age of five, is currently based in the grounds of St Peter’s Primary School.
Headteacher Steve Hitchcock announced earlier this year that the lease on the building which Carousel uses will not be renewed beyond December this year. This prompted a campaign by parents to keep Carousel in Budleigh.
Despite several options being discussed, the nursery will now move into Exmouth Town Football Club from January. This means parents of children aged three and under will have to travel to Exmouth for their child care needs. Children aged four and five will be able to take advantage of breakfast and after-school clubs at the school.
Carousel director Sarka Andersonova said: “We are very disappointed. It’s been very difficult and, despite several consultations looking at various avenues, we will have to move.”
Sarka said around 75 per cent of the parents who currently used the service would be taking their children to Carousel’s new home.
She said: “I am actually quite excited because it just feels right at the moment. We hope to keep the flexibility that parents know us for.”
Sarka added that she was looking into laying on a mini-bus twice a week to allow parents whose children have funding to get their childcare at Carousel.
The nursery will continue to operate from 7.30am until 6pm in its new location.
Carousel is currently taking bookings for parents wanting to register their children at its new location from January. No registration fee will be charged until December 31.
