EAST Budleigh's community shop is inviting people along to its Christmas celebration on December 19.

EAST Budleigh's community shop is inviting people along to its Christmas celebration on December 19.

Shop manager Colin Weston and the volunteers hope as many people as possible can join them to sing carols outside the village hall at 6pm.

The carol service will be led by East Budleigh's All Saints Church Reverend Janice Cackett.

Shop spokesperson and district councillor Malcolm Florey said the community shop had gone from strength to strength since its mid- October opening.

"It's been extremely busy for everyone concerned. The support from the community has been outstanding," said Cllr Florey. "We are on target financially with our figures, which is very reassuring at this stage - although it is still at the early stages.

"The volunteers have proved to be brilliant. They are so committed and enthusiastic about what they do.

"Manager Colin Weston is working long hours because the shop is open for long hours.

"It's all going really well. We are steadily increasing our lines of produce.

"The evidence so far is that the community is keen to purchase locally-grown food. That comes through strongly.
