CHRISTMAS came early at an Avenues care home in Exmouth when residents were treated to a week of fun-filled festive activities.

Last Wednesday residents at Fernihurst Care Home were in for a surprise when Santa dropped in for a visit with his helper - the home’s activities leader Alison Clayton – who handed out gifts dressed as a fairy. They also enjoyed live entertainment from the golden era of music when singer Daley Knight performed hits from the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

Following the event resident Margaret Smaldon said ”it was lovely” while fellow resident Audrey Norris said “it made me cry.”

In the run up to Christmas the residents have enjoyed a visit from Mary, a four legged friend from The Donkey Sanctuary, an afternoon of Christmas carols, a good old fashioned sing along with the home’s drama therapist, Christmas bingo and plenty more. On New Year’s Eve there will also be a traditional Hogmanay afternoon.

The home’s manager Andy Mack said: “Christmas is such a magical time of year so we wanted to really spoil our residents with a fun-filled festive period. Our staff have enjoyed it as much as our residents and the fun will not end here.”

Run by leading care provider Sanctuary Care, Fernihurst Care Home provides specialist dementia nursing care for elderly people.
