Caravans – which belong to the travelling community – are reported to have left a Budleigh Salterton car park.

Their whereabouts is currently unknown.

Six caravans plus two other vehicles arrived at the town’s Lime Kiln car park on Sunday evening, setting up an illegal encampment.

They had previously been camped in Sidmouth’s Long Park.

East Devon District Council gave the caravan owners 24 hours to leave the Budleigh site or face eviction.

“We can confirm that following the council serving notice yesterday on the travellers, they departed Lime Kiln car park before 9am today,” said an EDDC spokesperson.

“Their whereabouts are currently unknown to us.”
