AN Exmouth financial adviser has backed a call for more members of the public to follow his example and volunteer as a magistrate.
AN Exmouth financial adviser has backed a call for more members of the public to follow his example and volunteer as a magistrate.
Neil Rice, 46, has been a magistrate for a bout 12 months delivering local justice and
deals with criminal cases and some civil cases including youth and family matters in Exeter, East, Mid and West Devon.
About eight new magistrates are needed every year and he said: "I wanted to do something positive and give something back to the community.

"I've lived in the area all my life and understand the underlying issues and problems.
"I think it's easy to become a little blind to what's going on in society and I have found have a new appreciation."

He sits once every two weeks and qualifications are not needed but there is some training.
Candidates will have to demonstrate qualities including good character, understanding and communication, social awareness, maturity and sound judgment.
