A TEENAGE singer from Budleigh Salterton can be heard on national radio this weekend.

Laurie Ward, of Bedlands Lane, will feature on BBC Switch, presented by Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw, to be broadcast on Radio 1, this Sunday, December 20, between 8 and 9pm.

The 17-year-old, who performs on a solo basis and belongs to an Exmouth group called State of Emergency, won the opportunity to star on the show having won a competition.

Laurie said: "They will ring me up and do an interview over the phone and play a number of songs from my myspace internet page.

"Musically, this is probably one of my biggest achievements so far. Hopefully I will get quite a bit of recognition out of it."

The BBC Switch show celebrates British teens through a range of multi-platform content.

Laurie added: "I would like to be a musician and doing else other than that.

"I practice the guitar almost every night and write songs frequently. I also try to do different things with my music."
