Budleigh Salterton Town Council is to take steps to protect two taxi bays in the town.
At a meeting this month, members were told that the two spaces, one in Station Road and the other in Fore Street, were not official taxi ranks.
Earlier this year, concerns were raised when the town’s mobile bank was given a parking ticket for stopping in the Station Road spot.
The ticket has since been rescinded and it has emerged that the town’s two bays are not registered with East Devon District Council.
District councillor Steve Hall said the spaces would become general parking spots if action is not taken.
He also said that, while there are not any taxi firms in Budleigh, there is ‘anecdotal evidence’ to suggest that they are well used by companies from surrounding towns.
The town council voted to ask East Devon District Council to save the taxi spots.
