Youngsters received a wooden cross from the Royal British Legion, which the children placed in the ground to create a giant cross on the school playing field.

The school arranged its own service to remember the war dead, where pupils said prayers and were silent in honour of the fallen.

Steve Hitchcock, St Peter’s Primary School headteacher, said: “The Royal British Legion bought a cross for every child so we could make a giant one on the field.

“We held a Remembrance service around it, with prayers and a moment of silence, whilst each child planted a cross. It was very moving.”
