An application to put up a 15-metre telephone mast at Budleigh Salterton Games Club has been entered to East Devon District Council.

Mobile phone signal strength in Budleigh Salterton could be set to improve after a planning application to construct a mast was submitted.

Vodafone has applied to install the 15-metre mast, with two microwave dishes, at the games club in Cricket Field Lane.

If given the go-ahead, this could mean that customers of O2 and Vodafone would be set for improved mobile phone signal. There is already an EE mast on the site.

In the plans, Vodafone says a new mast is needed as the existing one is ‘not sharable’ without further redevelopment.

The telecommunications giant also said that other sites, including on top of the former hospital and St Peter’s Church, were not suitable. The croquet club also declined the proposal to use their land.

The application, which also includes two ground-based equipment cabinets, will go before the town council before East Devon District Council make a final decision.
