The town is set to go to the polls after East Devon District Council officers recommended the blueprint document progress to the referendum stage.

Budleigh Salterton looks set to go to the polls on a blueprint document for the town’s future later this year.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) officers have recommended that the external examiner’s recommendations for changes to the town’s Neighbourhood Plan be adopted.

The adjusted document will go before EDDC’s cabinet on Thursday, June 13.

A referendum in Budleigh on whether to accept the plan has been earmarked for the autumn.

If the amended plan gets more than 50 per cent of the popular vote, Budleigh residents will have the opportunity to vote on whether to accept it.

The document will then return to EDDC’s cabinet committee to be officially ‘made’ and will need to be referred to by prospective developers looking to build in the town.

At the same meeting, cabinet members will also vote on whether to ‘make’ the East Budleigh Nieghbourhood Plan.
