After 30 years the society is disbanding due to a lack of volunteers.

After more than 30 years, Budleigh Salterton’s St Peter’s Music (SPM) will soon stop organising concerts.

SPM was originally started by Sylvia Pritchard, the then director of music at St Peter’s Church in Budleigh Salterton and more recently, Chris Parrish has been the chairman.

A spokesman for St Peter’s Music Society said: “Unlike many music societies which stop due to financial pressures, this is not the case with (SPM), although we understand that audiences have become smaller over the past few years.

“The real problem has been in recruiting sufficient volunteers to assist in the planning and organising of the concerts.”

Since it has proved impossible to find sufficiently interested people to keep the society running, the decision was made at the last Annual General Meeting to close it. This will happen formally on October 15. SPM wishes all its former regular followers well and is sorry that it is unable to carry on.
